Regent’s Training Program
In order to work in the security industry in Alberta, all candidates must complete the Government of Alberta’s 40 – hour Basic Security Training (ABST) course.
Regent provides additional professional training to enhance our guards to provide superior service. Our training program is a blend of online and in-class training formats to provide practical hands-on application of skills. Guards are provided training such as:
- Emergency First Aid / CPR-C / AED
- Workplace Hazardous Material Information Systems (WHMIS)
- Customer Service in a Policing Environment
- Basic Self Defense
- Fire Extinguisher Theory
- Effective Note Taking and Report Writing
- Fundamentals of Searching
- Verbal De-escalation Conflict Resolution
- Engaging Vulnerable People
- Freedom of Information & Privacy Act Awareness
- Canadian Legal System
- Mental Health Awareness
- Emergency Management & Incident Command System
- Use of Force Application – Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT)
As a proud corporate member of the International Federation of Protection Officers (IFPO), we also offer the following professional designation courses for our team:
- Certified Protection Officer (CPO)
- Certified in Supervision and Security Management (CSSM)

Regent Protection Services is now offering the Alberta Basic Security Training Course (ABST) which is your first step to applying for an Alberta Security License.
Course will be held May 06 – 10, 2024.
Hours of course are 8:00am – 4:30 pm
$265.00 including Final Exam.
$240.00 with Referral
$100.00 Deposit to hold seat & Balance due minimum 1 week before course start date.
